About the Artist

Julie Miller is a potter from Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Penn State University with a bachelor’s degree in Art Education in 2013. It was at PSU where she discovered functional pottery and was instantly hooked by the idea that this art form was not only visually and aesthetically pleasing but also utilitarian. Julie believes that her pots are meant to be touched and incorporated into everyday life, and that coffee truly does taste better out of a handmade mug.

Her home studio is where Julie creates all of her pots, starting by throwing each form on the potter’s wheel using stoneware clay. She then slip trails each design by hand, creating her distinct flower patterns. The last step of the process is glazing, where each color is selected carefully to highlight the patterns and forms of each pot and fired in the kiln. Julie is constantly pushing herself to experiment with new forms and takes most of her inspiration from the natural world. All wares are microwave and dishwasher safe.
